Warped Universe is a free-to-play sci-fi PvE looter shooter set in a volatile, expanding universe where every mission moves progress forward for the player and the community together. Any mission can be played as real-time action or turn-based tactics, on the ground or in space. It launched in Early Access on Steam and the Epic Games Store in May 2026 to Mostly Positive reviews.
I was the main Unreal programmer at Warped Games, working across engine, UI, backend, and platform on a team of 12 and making most of the technical calls.
What I worked on
- Contributed to the core gameplay loop and mission system across all four modes
- Handled all Unreal-to-backend integration with Beamable microservices for managing player and game state
- Built the backend system that updates the universe’s shared macro game state in response to player mission activity
- Integrated the Steam marketplace for tradable and sellable in-game cosmetics
- Built the core UI and menu system on UMG and Common UI
- Integrated Enhanced Input for full keyboard, mouse, and gamepad support
- Built full character customization using the Unreal Mutable plugin
- Built the loadout system for saving weapon, armor, and cosmetic loadouts
- Set up initial multiplayer support covering community server replication, dedicated server builds, and dedicated server orchestration with Edgegap
- Handled all platform integration for Steam and Epic Games Store
- Managed several Unreal Engine version upgrades over the life of the project
- Administered Perforce for the studio, covering depot and stream layout, permissions, and the workspace problems that stop artists working
- Designed, built, and maintained a multi-agent TeamCity CI/CD pipeline on AWS
